| **A body weighing 1 kg is at a height of 2 m from the surface of the Earth. At what height should a body weighing 0.5 kg be placed so that it has the same potential energy?**

To find the height at which a body of smaller mass will need to be, we use the equality: m1 * g * h1 = En (potential energy) = m2 * g * h2, from where we express: h2 = m1 * h1 / m2.

Variables: m1 is the mass of the first (larger) body (m1 = 1 kg); h1 – the height of the first body (h1 = 2 m); m2 is the mass of the second (smaller) body (m2 = 0.5 kg).

Calculation: h2 = 1 * 2 / 0.5 = 4 m.

Answer: A body of lesser mass should be at a height of 4 m.
