| A train covers 2 times less distance per hour than a car. How many kilometers per hour will the train travel if the sum of the speeds of it and the car is 150 km / h?
The solution of the problem:
1) From the conditions of this problem, we know that a train travels a distance two times less in an hour than a car. In other words, a train moves at half the speed of a car. Let’s write down:
x is the speed of the train;
x * 2 – vehicle speed.
2) The speed of the train and car together is 150 km / h. Let’s make an equation and find the unknown x:
x + 2x = 150;
3x = 150;
x = 150/3;
x = 50;
x = 50 km / h – train speed.
3) Find out the train route in 1 hour:
50 * 1 = 50 kilometers.
Answer: The train will travel 50 kilometers in an hour.
