| Calculate the amount of substance and the mass of hydrogen chloride formed by the reaction of hydrogen with chlorine in a volume of 44.8 liters.
1. Let’s compose the equation of the chemical reaction:
H2 + Cl2 = 2HCl.
2. Find the chemical amount of reacted chlorine (Vm – molar volume, constant equal to 22.4 l / mol):
n (Cl2) = V (Cl2) / Vm = 44.8 L / 22.4 L / mol = 2 mol.
3. According to the reaction equation, we find the chemical amount, and then the mass of the released hydrogen chloride:
n (HCl) = n (Cl2) * 2 = 2 mol * 2 = 4 mol.
m (HCl) = n (HCl) * M (HCl) = 4 mol * 36.5 g / mol = 146 g.
Answer: n (HCl) = 4 mol; m (HCl) = 146 g.
