| The reaction between chlorine and sodium is described by the following chemical reaction equation:
2Na + Cl2 = 2NaCl;
From one mole of sodium, one mole of sodium chloride is formed.
Determine the molar mass of sodium and sodium chloride:
M Na = 23 grams / mol;
M NaCl = 23 + 35.5 = 58.5 grams / mol;
Let’s determine the amount of substance in 2.3 grams of sodium:
N Na = 2.3 / 23 = 0.1 mol;
Determine the mass of 0.1 mol of sodium chloride:
m NaCl = 0.1 x 58.5 = 5.85 grams;
