Characteristics of lower and higher plant groups.

The division into higher and lower plants in the modern scientific world, for the most part, is considered obsolete. The term “lower plants” meant initially algae, fungi and lichens, i.e. organisms in which all tissues are the same. Then it turned out that mushrooms and lichens do not belong to plants, so only algae remained the lowest.

All other representatives of the plant world are called higher, since they have vegetative organs of various functions and structure (for example, roots, leaves, stems, etc.).
