Describe the role of autotrophs and heterotrophs.

Autotrophs are those living organisms that are able to independently create organic substances using inorganic ones. Almost all plants are autotrophs. Also, some animals and protozoa are capable of autotrophic nutrition. Heterotrophs are all other organisms that cannot synthesize organic matter on their own. They eat autotrophs and other heterotrophs to produce organic matter. Therefore, autotrophic organisms are important for the life of heterotrophs.
