Determine the mass and amount of the salt substance formed as a result of the reaction of the compound

Determine the mass and amount of the salt substance formed as a result of the reaction of the compound of sodium oxide (/) and sulfur oxide (V /), if the mass of sodium oxide = 5g

1. Let’s compose the equation of the proceeding reaction:

Na2O + SO3 = Na2SO4;

2. find the chemical amount of sodium oxide:

n (Na2O) = m (Na2O): M (Na2O);

M (Na2O) = 23 * 2 + 16 = 62 g / mol;

n (Na2O) = 5: 62 = 0.08 mol;

3. Determine the chemical amount of the resulting sodium sulfate:

n (Na2SO4) = n (Na2O) = 0.08 mol;

4. find the mass of salt:

m (Na2SO4) = n (Na2SO4) * M (Na2SO4);

M (Na2SO4) = 23 * 2 + 32 + 4 * 16 = 142 g / mol;

m (Na2SO4) = 0.08 * 142 = 11.36 g.

Answer: 0.08 mol; 11.36 g.
