Ecological problems of Lake Ladoga.

Lake Ladoga is the largest freshwater reservoir in Europe. Belongs to the Baltic Sea basin, located in the Republic of Karelia and the Leningrad Region.

Environmental problems of the lake:

Burial of post-war radioactive substances, location of nuclear hazardous facilities.
High content of various metals in water.
More than 400 million m3 of industrial waste is discharged into the lake basin every year.
Extraction of minerals, deforestation. Natural resources do not have time to recover.
Expansion of transport infrastructure, shipping and fishing.
The disappearance of rare species of flora and fauna.
