From cities A and B, the distance between which is 350 km, two motorcyclists drove towards each other at the same time. After 3 hours after the start of the movement, they had to drive 20 km before the meeting. Find the speeds of motorcyclists if one of them is 10 km / h slower than the other.
1. The distance between cities A and B is: S = 350 km;
2. Time of movement of two motorcyclists: Tc = 3 hours;
3. They have left to cover the distance: So = 20 km;
4. Speed of the first rider: V1 km / h;
5. Speed of the second rider: V2 = (V1 – 10) km / h;
6. The total speed of motorcyclists is equal to: Vc km / h;
Vc = V1 + V2 = V1 + (V1 – 10) = (2 * V1 – 10) km / h;
7. Motorcyclists drove together: Sc = S – So =
350 – 20 = 330 km;
8. We calculate the total speed of motorcyclists:
Vc = Sc / Tc = 330/3 = 110 km / h;
9. Speed of the first rider:
V1 = (Vc + 10) / 2 = (110 + 10) / 2 = 60 km / h;
10. Speed of the second rider:
V2 = V1 – 10 = 60 – 10 = 50 km / h.
Answer: the speed of the first rider is 50 km / h, the second is 60 km / h.
