High-grass steppes in North America.

Such areas are called Prairie in North America. In more ancient times, these steppes were covered with dense tall grass. Back in the 18th century, huge herds of bison lived there, which were the main source of food for the Indian tribes. But due to the mass extermination of bison, the Indians were forced to leave these lands in search of new food, and the steppes themselves were empty.
