How did people in ancient times use the star navigator?

For ancient people, the stars were a kind of huge dial – at different times of the night, you could see certain stars. The night was divided into 12 periods of time, each of which “belonged” to the rise of its one star. The stars also served as a reference point for sailors, indicated the directions of the parts of the world, with the help of the stars, new lands were mastered.
