How did Rome manage to conquer so many states?

Ancient Rome was able to become a very powerful state. The Romans were able to seize new lands and develop their power. First of all, the capture of new countries was possible thanks to a strong army. The best people were selected and trained to fight. The science of warfare developed. We can remember how in many films the Romans collected defensive figures from shields and advanced. But besides this, foreign policy also played an important role. The enemies of Rome were pitted against each other and then, when the opponents were weakened, the Romans captured them.
