How is an estate different from a fiefdom? What do they have in common? Why was the existence of estates advantageous for the grand ducal power?

Both concepts are associated with ownership of land, and in a mandatory combination with the peasants who held allotments and served their duties to the feudal lord. But if the estate is state land (less often – church land), and was transferred in exchange for the obligation to serve, then the patrimony is not only personal, but also hereditary land ownership of the family, clan, which could be freely disposed of.
