How to change the mass fraction of the solution (100 g, 30%) when adding 30 g of water to the solution?

1) Find the mass of the solute in the original solution. To do this, we multiply the mass fraction of the substance by the mass of the solution and divide by one hundred percent: 100 * 30/100 = 30g.
2) Find the mass of the solution after adding water. To do this, add the initial mass of the solution and the mass of added water: 100 + 30 = 130g.
3) Find the mass fraction of salt in the resulting solution. For this, the mass of the solute is divided by the mass of the solution and multiplied by one hundred percent: 30/130 * 100 = 23.1% – the answer.
