How to determine the scale division of a measuring device?

We take two consecutive numbers marked on the scale of the measuring device, for example 5 and 6 cm. There are several small gaps between them. Subtract five from six and divide by the number of small gaps, for example 1 by 10, and we get the division price – 1/10 cm = 1 mm.
