How was the land tenure system in Russia similar to the land tenure system in Western Europe?

Both in Russia and in the countries of Western Europe, there was a feudal system of land tenure. This system is characterized by the fact that most of the fertile land was owned by privileged feudal lords. The peasants (both in Russia and in Western Europe) were forced to pay quitrent for the use of the land of the feudal lord, or to work off the corvee. Thus, there was a dependence of the peasants on the feudal lords, only in Russia this dependence intensified and over time turned into serfdom.
