How were the northwestern shores of North America discovered?

In the exploration of the northwestern coasts of North America, Russian discoverers are of great merit. It is assumed that the first Europeans who saw the shores of Alaska and the American islands in the North Pacific Ocean were members of the Semyon Dezhnev expedition at the end of the 17th century.
