How were the northwestern shores of North America discovered?

In the exploration of the northwestern coasts of North America, Russian discoverers are of great merit. It is assumed that the first Europeans who saw the shores of Alaska and the American islands in the North Pacific Ocean were members of the Semyon Dezhnev expedition at the end of the 17th century. It has been documented that these shores were actively studied by the ships of the Great Northern Expedition. The expedition leader, Bering Whituts, set out to find the western shores of America and establish trade between these territories and Russia.
