In a rectangular piece of cardboard, the length of which is 2 whole .1 / 4 dm and the width is 2/3 dm, two identical squares with a side of 1/3 dm were cut out. What is the area of the remaining part? We collected 10 kg of mushrooms. 3/4 of the mushrooms were pickled, 1/5 of the mushrooms were dried, and soup was made from the rest of the mushrooms. How many kilograms of mushrooms were used for the soup?
1) Let us first calculate the initial area c1:
c1 = 2 1/4 dm * 2/3 dm = 9/4 dm * 2/3 dm = 3/2 dm2.
Let’s calculate the cut area c2: c2 = 2 * (1/3) * (1/3) dm2 = 2/9 dm2.
The remaining area is: c0 = c1 – c2 = 3/2 dm2 – 2/9 dm2 = (27 – 4) / 18 dm2 = 23/18 dm2 = 1 5/18 dm2.
Answer: the remaining area is 1 5/18 dm2.
2) Marinated 10 * (3/4) kg = 15/2 kg = 7.5 kg of mushrooms.
dried – 10 * 1/5 kg = 2 kg of mushrooms.
Left for soup and boiled – (10 kg – 7.5 kg – 2 kg) = 0.5 kg of mushrooms.
Answer: 0.5 kg left for the soup.
