In what direction does the Earth rotate around its axis? in orbit?

The earth makes two types of rotations. One of them is around its axis, and the other is around the Sun, of which it is a satellite. Rotation data has a huge impact on the planet. They affect the weather, the movement of continents, the behavior of animals and humans, and many other phenomena.

Rotation around its axis
The Earth rotates around its axis in a counterclockwise direction (or from west to east). One revolution takes one day in duration. During this time on Earth, the light period changes to night.

In the geological past, the planet made one revolution around its axis faster, and in time it was equal to about 22, not 24 hours. Today, rotation most of all affects the behavior and activity of animals and humans. This is due to the fact that most animals need a significant amount of light just to see, and at night they cannot orient themselves. These are the majority of primates (including humans), many herbivores, etc. The eyes of animals such as cats have adapted to recognize objects even in the limited light that is emitted by the stars or the moon.

Orbital rotation
In orbit, the Earth rotates at a tremendous speed (about 23 km / s) and in the direction from west to east. The orbit is 930 million km long, and it itself resembles an ellipse in shape. One revolution equals one calendar year, so the most visible results of rotation are seasonality and division of the planet’s surface into climatic zones. There are six of them in total:

Equatorial;
Subequatorial;
Tropical;
Subtropical;
Moderate;
Polar.

This division occurs because the axis of the Earth is not at right angles to the orbit, but has a certain tilt, and, accordingly, one part of the planet is closer to the Sun and receives more energy and heat from it. Within six months, the two parts change places, and already the other one becomes closer to the luminary and its rays, which is why the seasons in the northern and southern hemispheres do not coincide.
