Name the nerve endings that perceive irritation.

These endings are called receptors. They can be located on the surface of the body (exteroreceptors), in internal organs (interoreceptors), in tendons and muscles (proprioceptors). Receptors are able to perceive a wide variety of stimuli (chemicals, light, temperature changes, etc.). If the receptor perceives only one type of stimulus, it is called monomodal, if several – polymodal.
