Place and year of the battle of the Czechs and Hungarians with the Turks.

At the end of August 1526, near the Hungarian village of Mohacs, a battle took place between the Ottoman army and the united detachments of Czechs, Croats and Hungarians. The Turkish army was victorious. The government of the Ottoman Empire planned to turn the captured Central Danube lands into a springboard for further conquests in Europe. The defeat in this battle led to the division of Hungary in two. The central regions of Hungary became part of Turkey, and the outlying provinces were captured by Austria. The South Slavic peoples were under the Ottoman yoke for several centuries.
