Several European states established colonies in India.
Portugal: 1510 – the state of Goa is captured; 1538 – another colony is founded in the Ganges delta.
England: This country had the most colonies and had the strongest influence on India. Since 1600, the British have been consolidating in India. Bengal, Burma, Pakistan were annexed to England.
Holland: East India Company founded in 1602. Colonies were founded in Palakolla (1652) and Jaffnapatam (1658).
France: French East India Company founded (1664).
Denmark, Sweden and Austria were also involved in the struggle for colonies in India.
