The graph of the linear function passes through point B (-1; 0.5). Find the number K if the function has the form: a) y = kx-3 b) f (x) = kx + 1

a) The function, which has the form y = kx – 3, passes through the point B (- 1; 0.5). Substitute these coordinates into the equation and find the unknown:

y = kx – 3;

0.5 = k * (- 1) – 3;

0.5 = – k – 3;

k = – 3 – 0.5;

k = – 3.5.

Answer: k = – 3.5.

b) f (x) = kx + 1;

y = kx + 1;

0.5 = k * (- 1) + 1;

0.5 = – k + 1;

k = 1 – 0.5;

k = 0.5.

Answer: k = 0.5.
