The oldest monastery in Europe.

Most historians and researchers agree that the oldest surviving monastery is in the village of Zlatna Livada in Bulgaria. It was founded by Saint Athanasius in about 344. In the archives of the Vatican there are records that Atanasius participated in the cathedral in Serdica, after which he spent some time in Zlatna Livada. At this time he founded the monastery.
