The perimeter of an isosceles triangle ABC is 50 cm, and one of its sides is 13 cm less than the other. Find the sides of triangle ABC.

From the condition it is known that the perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 50 cm, and one of its sides is 13 cm larger than the other. In order to find the sides of the triangle, we compose and solve a linear equation with one variable.

In an isosceles triangle, the two sides are equal.

Let’s denote the side of the triangle with the variable x, then the base can be written as (x – 13).

Formula for finding the perimeter:

P = 2a + b;

2 * x + x – 13 = 50;

2x + x = 50 + 13;

3x = 63;

x = 63: 3;

x = 21 cm lateral side of the triangle, then 21 – 13 = 8 cm base of the triangle.
