The perimeter of an isosceles triangle ACB with base AC is 32 cm, and the perimeter of an equilateral triangle ACD

The perimeter of an isosceles triangle ACB with base AC is 32 cm, and the perimeter of an equilateral triangle ACD is 15 cm. Find the length of the side of an isosceles triangle.

In an equilateral triangle, all sides are equal, therefore, AD = CD = AC = PACD / 3 = 15/3 = 5 cm.

In an isosceles triangle, the length of the lateral side is equal to half the difference between the perimeter and the length of the base:

AB = BC = (PABC – AC) / 2 = (32 – 5) / 2 = 27/2 = 13.5 cm – the side of an isosceles triangle.
