| The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 50 cm and one of its sides is 13 cm smaller than the other, find the sides of the triangle.
1. A, B, C – the vertices of the triangle.
2. According to the condition of the problem, the AC is less than AB by 13 centimeters. Therefore, AC = AB – 13.
3. Further calculations are performed using the formula for calculating the perimeter of a triangle:
AC + AB + BC = 50 centimeters.
BC = AB, since the triangle is isosceles.
4. Substitute in the original formula AB instead of BC and (AB – 13) instead of AC:
AB – 13 + 2AB = 50.
3AB = 63.
AB = 63: 3 = 21 centimeters
AC = 21 – 13 = 8 centimeters.
Answer: AC = 8 centimeters, AB = BC = 21 centimeters.
