The speed of the car on the first section of the path is 4 m / s, on the second section the speed is v2

The speed of the car on the first section of the path is 4 m / s, on the second section the speed is v2, find the speed on the second section if v is average equal to 4.8 m / s.

To determine the desired speed in the second section, we apply the formula (the traveled sections of the path are considered equal): V = S / (t1 + t2) = S / (S1 / V1 + S2 / V2) = 1 / (1 / 2V1 + 1 / 2V2 ).

Variables: V1 – speed on the first section of the track (V1 = 4 m / s); V – average speed (V = 4.8 m / s).

Substitute the variables and transform the calculation formula: 4.8 = 1 / (1 / (2 * 4) + 1 / 2V2) = 1 / (1/8 + 1 / 2V2), whence 1/8 + 1 / 2V2 = 1 / 4.8; 1 / 2V2 = 1 / 4.8 – 1/8 = (5 – 3) / 24 = 2/24; 2V2 = 24/2 and V2 = 6 m / s.
