The voting system of the Spartans.

For Spartans, voting results are determined by shouting. The chairman of the meeting, listening to the shouts by ear, determined for which decision the shout was louder. There was another rule for making a decision, when those present at the meeting were divided into two parts: who was “for” – sat on the left, and who “against” sat on the right. The number of participants sat on different sides by eye was determined which question will win the vote. Elections in Sparta were held with the participation of elders, who were closed in the premises before the beginning of the meeting and candidates were nominated. The meeting shouted out its decision, and the elders, by the volume of the shouts, not knowing the candidates, made a decision, for which account the meeting shouted louder.
