| Using the addition method, find the solution (x0, y0) of the system of equations x-y = 2 and x + y = -6. Calculate x0 + 3y0.
x – y = 2; x + y = – 6 – we perform term-by-term addition of the equations of the system;
(x + x) + (- y + y) = 2 + (- 6);
2x + 0 = – 4;
2x = – 4;
x = – 4: 2;
x0 = – 2 – substitute the number (- 2) in the second equation instead of x;
– 2 + y = – 6;
y = – 6 + 2;
y0 = – 4.
x0 + 3y0 = – 2 + 3 * (- 4) = – 2 – 12 = – 14.
Answer. – fourteen.
