What are the differences and similarities between the state in Athens and Rome?

The Roman Republic, like Athens, were the slave-owning classical societies of antiquity. The relatively similar mythological pantheon of deities and cultural ties, as well as the electiveness of positions, united these two state entities. But there were many differences, among which: the vision of military operations – Athens as protection, and Rome as expansion of territories. The struggle of the plebs for their rights became the reason for the power of the Roman state. A different mentality that allowed the Athenians to create a great culture and philosophy, and the Romans a great state.
