What are the features of the external structure of insects?

Insects are of the arthropod type, because they have a chitinous cover and the body with legs consists of separate segments. But, unlike crustaceans and spiders, their body is divided into head, chest and abdomen. On the head are compound eyes, antennae are organs of smell, palps are organs of touch and mouth organs, which depend on what the insect feeds on. They have 6 legs and two pairs of wings, which are located on the segments of the chest. The abdomen consists of segments and each has two spiracles through which they breathe.
