What beliefs was Islam directed against in the first place?

Islam was directed against paganism, as it is polytheism, that is, “shirk”. That is why Muslims have a negative attitude towards Buddhists and Hindus. Also, a relatively negative attitude towards other confessions that were then on the Arabian Peninsula and nearby – Sabianism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, Judaism. In the VII-VIII centuries, Muslims managed to take control of part of the Christian lands of the former Byzantium in northern Africa, the Middle East and the Iberian Peninsula.
