What contribution did Aristotle make to the study of the earth?

Aristotle was one of the first among the ancient scientists to guess and provide sound evidence that the Earth has a spherical shape. In his writings (“Meteology”), Aristotle tried to distinguish the atmosphere of our planet as a separate shell. Moreover, he considered the hydrosphere to be nothing more than a part of the atmosphere. His scientific treatises laid the foundation for such sciences as meteorology and hydrology. The scientist also urged his students not to sit locked up for days and build all sorts of inferences and theories, but to go and observe nature and its phenomena.
