What is the difference between an empire and a republic? Explain the inevitability of the establishment of an empire in Rome.

The main difference was that after the reign of Caesar, who, not being the emperor himself, was a lifetime ruler (dictator) under the Republic, a tradition of transferring dictatorial powers between three high-ranking officials (triumvirate) was launched in the country. If one of the members of the triumvirate, the former dictator, died, another took his place. However, after the assassination of Caesar by the republicans and the subsequent war of Octavian Augustus against them, the role of the Roman Senate was noticeably weakened, Rome became an empire, and from an elective dictatorship, power soon began to be inherited.
