What is the significance of Vavilov’s works for breeding and biology in general?

Soviet scientist – biologist N.I. Vavilov studied the immunity of plants to fungal diseases, studied the evolution of rye and other cultivated plants (“On the origin of cultivated rye”), studied the prospects for the development of agriculture in the arid zone (“Field crops of the South-East”), discovered the law of homologous series, which was a breakthrough in development of selection as a science and biology in general.
