What spectacle did the Romans prefer to everyone else?

The most popular and large-scale entertainment in ancient Rome was undoubtedly gladiator fights. “Bread and circuses” – this was the slogan of the gladiatorial battles held in the Colosseum. However, these were not indiscriminate fights without rules. There were clearly defined rules, however, it was up to the public and public opinion to decide whether to get out of there alive or not.
