| The creation of the fleet dates back to the reign of Peter I (1689-1725). Before him, something similar to the fleet was only in the White Sea (Pomor Kochi), as well as on the rivers of Siberia and in the Sea of Okhotsk (you can recall the sea expedition of Dezhnev and Popov).
The fleet appeared in the Baltic, and in 1700-1711, that is, before the defeat in the war with Turkey, there was a flotilla in the Sea of Azov.
Military significance – successful waging of the war with Sweden, naval victories at Gangut (1714) and Grengam (1720).
Further, the fleet helped in the defeat of Turkey during the war of 1768-1774 (Battle of Chesme, 1770).
