Who first suggested using a plaster cast?

The famous Russian surgeon Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov (1810-1881) was the first in history to suggest using a plaster cast.

It is important to note that before him, doctors from different countries treated fractures using plaster and other mixtures. However, it was Pirogov who was the first to use a “blind-band” fixing a broken bone. This happened in 1847 during the fighting in the Caucasus. This dressing is used practically unchanged in our time by surgeons from all over the world.
