Why is the sympathetic nervous system called the stress system?

The human nervous system is divided into somatic, which we can control, and vegetative, which works independently of our will. The autonomic nervous system is sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic system works when a person is in an active state. It is called the stress system, because adrenaline is the main regulating substance for all processes occurring in it. It is produced during moments of stress and activates the work of all organs except the digestive system through the sympathetic nervous system.
