Why, of all Asian countries, it was Japan at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries that managed to achieve significant results in the modernization of society and industrialization.

The reasons:

1) Japan has hardened customs policy in order to protect domestic producers;

2) The state took an active part in financing the construction of infrastructure: railways, factories, factories (the military industry received significant support);
