Christopher Columbus, long before his discovery of the “erroneous” arrival in India, hatched a plan to get to Asia by sailing westward. He voiced his project both to the government of Genoa and to the King of Portugal, João II. And if the Genoese immediately rejected his offer, then the Portuguese ruler pondered Christopher’s plan for a long time. But the discovery made by Bartolomeo Dias, which proved that Africa can be circumvented and get to India in this way, made the king of Portugal refuse Columbus.
