Write an expression for the length of an open polyline ABCD, if AB = x cm, BC is 12.71 cm less, and CD is 2.85 dm larger than AB, and simplify it.

12.71 cm = 1.271 dm
AB + BC + CD = x + (x – 1.271) + (x + 2.85) = 3x + 1.579 (dm).
