Write the reaction equation: Cu – CuO – CuCl2 – Cu (OH) 2

We are given a homological series Cu – CuO – CuCl2 – Cu (OH) 2. To implement it, we need to carry out three chemical reactions.

A chemical reaction between copper and oxygen, resulting in the formation of copper oxide.

2 Cu + O2 = 2 CuO

A chemical reaction takes place between the obtained copper oxide and hydrochloric acid, as a result of this interaction, copper chloride and water are formed.

CuO + 2 HCl = CuCl2 + H2O

Next, we take the copper chloride salt obtained in the previous reaction and add sodium hydroxide, as a result of the reaction, copper hydroxide and sodium chloride are formed. This reaction is of the type of exchange.

CuCl2 + 2 NaOH = Cu (OH) 2 + 2 NaCl.
