| Six chemical elements are named due to the color of the main lines of the spectrum. Indium – so named because of its indigo color. Iodine is named by the chemist Gay-Lusak “odis”, which translated from Greek sounds like “like a violet”, that is, purple. When analyzing the spectrum, rubidium was determined by its characteristic red lines (in Latin – “rubidis”). Thallium is the green color of the spectrum. Cesium translates from Latin as “sky blue” – because when analyzing the spectrum, two clear blue stripes stand out. Chlorine (in other Greek “chloros” means “green”) – because of its light green color.
