How does a magnetic grain separator work?

The magnetic separator for grain has a rotating drum, inside of which there is a strong electromagnet; grain mixed with small iron filings is poured onto its surface from the hopper. Sawdust sticks together with grains of weeds and foreign iron debris to the drum, and refined grains of useful cereals are poured down into the container.
