What lessons can be learned from the history of the First World War?

The First World War turned out to be a large-scale world conflict, where large empires collided. The main goal of resolving the conflict for each of the participants was the possibility of expanding their territories and influence. In the end, however, the conflict brought very little benefit to either side. At the same time, the war had a consequence that led to the collapse of large empires: Austro-Hungarian, German, Ottoman and Russian. Many states gained independence. It can be said that imperialism and the oppression of national movements have caused this order of things.
