| A 5 cm by 2 cm strip was cut from a rectangle with sides 5 cm and 7 cm using one cut. What is the area of the remaining part?
Solution.
1. According to the formula S = a * b, where S is the area of the rectangle, a is the length, b is the width, we find the area of the original rectangle:
S = 7 * 5 = 35 (cm ^ 2).
2. Find the area of the strip that was cut off:
S = 5 * 2 = 10 (cm ^ 2).
3. Find the area of the remaining part by subtracting:
35 – 10 = 25 (cm ^ 2).
Answer: the area of the remaining part is 25 sq. Cm.
