A moving vehicle in the horizontal direction is affected by a traction force of 1500 N, a friction force of 800 N

A moving vehicle in the horizontal direction is affected by a traction force of 1500 N, a friction force of 800 N and an air resistance force of 450 N. Determine the modulus of the resultant of these forces.

Given:

Fthrust = 1500 Newton – traction force acting on the car;

F friction = 800 Newton – the friction force acting on the car;

Fresistance = 450 Newton – the force of air resistance acting on the car.

It is required to determine the resultant of all forces F (Newton).

According to the condition of the problem, all forces act in one direction (horizontal). Then, the traction force is directed along the movement of the car, and the forces of friction and air resistance are directed against the movement:

F = F thrust – F friction – F resistance = 1500 – 800 – 450 = 250 Newtons.

Answer: the resultant of all forces is 250 Newtons.
