Why is common amoeba referred to as heterotrophs?

Heterotrophs are living organisms that feed on ready-made organic matter. Common amoeba belongs to the animal kingdom of the protozoan kingdom. This organism consists of one complete cell that performs all vital functions. This animal lives at the bottom of reservoirs. The amoeba feeds on small algae, rotting products, bacteria and other small organisms. It does this by capturing nutrients by the pseudopods and moving them into the cell. Therefore, the amoeba is considered a heterotrophic organism.
